PennTRAIN History
PennTRAIN was established in 1989 as a partnership between PennDOT’s Bureau of Public Transportation, the Federal Transit Administration’s Rural Transportation Assistance Program (RTAP), and Penn State University.
In 2001, the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association (PPTA) stepped in to carry on the Penn State legacy of education excellence. With PPTA’s administration of the program, the full engagement of Pennsylvania’s transit systems, and the leadership of PPTA’s PennTRAIN Advisory Committee, the program has continued to thrive and sets the standard for public transportation education and training.
Thirty years from its inception with multiple national training awards to its credit, PennTRAIN is recognized as one of the most innovative and advanced RTAP programs in the country.
